------------------ 24.2.2004 Max Bell wrote ------------------ Hello! I am very interested in trying your telnet program for cell phones, but there seems to be a problem with the JAR file in that my Sanyo SCP-5500 refuses to install it due to an attribute mismatch (error 905). I have verified that the files are as provided and the jad fields match the jar -- size, location, etc. This appears to be related to some kind of version checking the Sanyo line performs on the jar contents. The discussion thread at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?thread=459250&forum=76&message=2101136 seems to suggest a build problem that only affects Sanyo phones. This concludes my bug report. Thank you for your time and efforts! Max --------------------------- 24.2.2004 I answered ------------------------------- Hi Max, try obfuscated package from: http://freewap.cz/wap/psonek/TelnetT720.jad ---------------------------- 24.2004 Max answered ------------------------------ The obfuscated version solved the problem! THANKS!!! :-) Max ---------------------- and same day next mail from Max came -------------------- Hello again. Thanks for the pointer to the obfuscated version, which loads just fine. However, I encountered the following bugs when trying to use Floyd Telnet on my Sanyo SCP-5500: I was able to successfully bind a key to the connection function after filling in my ip and port, but once I attempted to use the key (make the connection), it (1) did not connect nor return an error, and (2) while I could still access the binding menu, changes to the bindings were no longer reflected in the list once I exited the binding function. I also uncounted a serious problem with exiting the application -- once I exited the application via my phone's interface, restarting the application took me to the binding screen but I could not select any items or exit the binding screen. To escape from this and try again, I had to delete and reinstall Floyd. One last error I noticed is that even on initial startup -- i.e.: fresh install of Floyd -- the "show help" key 7 does not work. During one of my test sessions, the listing of key bindings unfroze and the show help key started working, but the connection function never did work. I was jamming random keys during this test, so I'm not able to say exactly what caused this. I hope these bugs can be solved eventually, as I really love the idea of telneting from my phone. Fwiw, I have tried muTelnet, and it works for a random number of minutes and then locks up. The Sanyo is supposed to support ip sockets, so I don't know what the problem is, but it's sure annoying. Anyway, thanks again for your telnet application efforts and I look forward to testing future versions. Max ------------------------------ I answered next day ----------------------------- Hi again Max, it's good that you can run the application. Now let's solve the other problems. I think most of them is because of the user interface. I wanted to make it as small small as possible so it's not very good and intuitive. I think you should read the tutorial from my hompage, if you didnt. As for beginning try this: 1) download Telnet 2) run it 3) press key 1 and wait. This should connect you to my telnet server. And now let's try to solve your questions :-) > I was able to successfully bind a key to the connection function > after filling in my ip and port, but once I attempted to use the > key (make the connection), it (1) did not connect nor return an > error, 1) Try to bind connection on key 1 (bind menu->fill params -> press 1 when it asks "press key"). After this you return to help screen. 2) now press key 1 to make connction. 3) you should see "Connecting..." and if fails it writes after some time "...Failed" > and (2) while I could still access the binding menu, > changes to the bindings were no longer reflected in the list > once I exited the binding function. I also uncounted a serious > problem with exiting the application -- once I exited the > application via my phone's interface, restarting the application > took me to the binding screen but I could not select any items > or exit the binding screen. When you exit and start telnet again you will see all binding = help :) > To escape from this and try again, > I had to delete and reinstall Floyd. One last error I noticed > is that even on initial startup -- i.e.: fresh install of Floyd > -- the "show help" key 7 does not work. Show help prints bindings on screen. If you are not connected, help prints with small font (same as when you start telnet). If you are connected help prints in new screen (with default phone font). I hope this help you some, if not i try help some more. Good luck. Radek ---------------------------- Answer that came from Max ------------------------- Thank you for your letter! I did read the tutorial, though perhaps my previous letter wasn't clear. I pressed 6, per the tutorial, and used the 'connect' function to define a connection for my host, and then mapped that to the 1 key. Then I pressed the 1 key with no result (no connecting, no other messages). I also tested with a clean install and just pressing 1 to try connecting to your server, which did not work either. To aid in debugging, I just tried it again -- clean install, pressed 1 to connect to your server (no other keys pressed or operations attempted beforehand), and the result is the same: nothing happens, no "connecting" message or any other message. As I mention above, I do not have a problem operating the binding function. The problems are that (1) once I have tried to connect to any host (yours or mine, makes no difference) future uses of the binding function seem to complete ok (i can go to the binding menu, pick a function, bind it to a key) but the changes no longer appear on the list of bound keys on exit from the binding screen, (2) if I exit Floyd Telnet and return to my phone's normal menus, when I run Floyd again I find myself on the bind screen (which I wasn't on when I exited) but unable to move the cursor or select anything, and (3) from a clean install with no other buttons pressed before, pressing 7 (show help) does nothing. Thank you again for your help! Max ------------------------- And i answered back twice ---------------------------- Hi Max, thanks for really nice description of the problem. The situation is now like this: yesterday i started to work on SSH and optimalized some Telnet code also. I am planing to make new realease of Telnet and SSH very soon (i hope tonight). I will build in some debugging there so we can find out where is the problem on your phone. I will send you mail then. See you. Radek Hi Max, i made special package for you to test if you can connect from your phone. You can download from: http://freewap.cz/wap/psonek/MaxTelnet.jad When you start just press "1" and wait until console shows up. There are too possible cases: 1) Connected!!! 2) Connection fails The first case is fine for you, because telnet should run on your phone. The second can be either if you dont GPRS set correctly. Please mail me what was exactly the result and i can try further solve the problem. See ya. Radek ---------------------------- 26.2.2004 Max answered ---------------------------- Hi Radek. Downloaded and ran the special version, test was successful: got the "Connected!!!" (last line) response on the Debug console screen. Don't know if it's important, but I did notice it only works once -- after I press 'done' to exit the debug console, pressing 1 doesn't work a second time. Also, I can exit this version back to the phone menus and then rerun it without problems (pressing 1 works again -- one time per run). Thanks for your interest in my problem! Max -------------------------------- My answer was --------------------------------- Hi again Max, it works the way it should. We are connected to server that was really important to know for me. Now I added some tracing information that prints to console. Output from my phone is this: Connecting socket://158.194.80.13:23 Connected!!! Reader started Input: ÿýÿý ÿý#ÿý' ÿû ÿü ÿü# ÿü' Flushing output Input: ÿúÿð ÿú vt320 ÿð Flushing output Input: ÿûÿýÿýÿûÿý! ÿý ÿû ÿû ÿú ÿð ÿû ÿþ ÿü! Flushing output Input: ÿþÿû ÿü ÿý Flushing output Input: Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 phoenix.inf.upol.cz phoenix login: Please tell me, where is the output from your phone different. You can find debuging verision again at: http://freewap.cz/wap/psonek/MaxTelnet.jad If you get to the last line you can try exit console. You should se login screen on telnet and you should be able to work normaly with telnet. If not I can try find out from your output what goes wrong. Good luck. Radek ------------------------------- Max answer was --------------------------------- Unfortunately, the new version produces no output at all -- does not even display the debug console screen -- when I press 1. Max ---------------------------------- My reply ------------------------------------ That's bad. I know that it's really hard to look for the problem when i dont have the phone. I will help you as long as you want, but it can take long time. I know it from past. First version was working on Siemens fine, but it took me like 3 days to run on Motorola. Sockets are behaving different way there and thing that run on computer or Siemens hang on other phones. Well i stop whining. Maybe i am on track what could be wrong. You can try again http://freewap.cz/wap/psonek/MaxTelnet.jad This version displays console when you run it and automaticly connects and should print connecting log (same as log as in previous version). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello again. First the yay news (well, moderately good, anyway): the new version runs and gets as far as displaying "reader started" in the debug log. The ooops news is that I think I bungled the install of the last version and tested the wrong one. The jad file had (and has) a bad jar-url specifier -- refers to the jad file vs. the jar file. This is not a big problem for me, as I can and did download both the jad and the jar and installed them from my webserver after editing the jad. However, I think I grabbed and installed the wrong (original) jar last time, so naturally it didn't work. Sorry about that. :-( Max -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Max, that's kinda strange. Reader started but it should continue. I removed last part that could be problematic. If this new version wont get over "reader started" i dont know what next. After reader started i am just checking for data in connection - nothing seem to be wrong for me. Oh well will see :-) The adress for download is again the same. I wish good luck. Radek -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Max, i did a testing application. If you install it, you can choose one of the 4 connection. It will try to connect, read and display data (the same way as in my Telnet, but this is really simple). I am really interested in the output. See you. Radek Here is my output: 1) SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.4p1 Debian 1:3.4p1-1.woody.3 211,211,200,173,177,174,185,185,173,207,240,229,238,211,211,200,223,179,174,180,240,177,160,196,229,226,233,225,238,160,177,186,179,174,180,240,177,173,177,174,247,239,239,228,249,174,179,138, 2) ÿýÿý ÿý#ÿý' 127,125,152,127,125,160,127,125,163,127,125,167, 3) ýÿý *** Mume VIII *** In progress at FIRE (Free Internet Roleplay Experiences) Adapted from J.R.R. Program umi cist a zobrazit data, takze pokud vas vysledek bude nejaky rozumny text (zejmena spojeni c. 3) pak by telefon mel sockety zvladat. Hodne stesti Radek
